We are 2 weeks into our Summer CSA and things are going well. We have a few administrative glitches to work out, but we’re providing for 93 members and I am very pleased. For those of you affected by these mistakes, thank you for giving us a chance to make it up to you.
If you are having issues with ordering please notify us immediately. Kendra is available to help you through this process. And again, If you do not receive a confirmation email after ordering this means your order was not completed – we did not receive it.
We have had issues in the past with our email. Now when we send out mass emails we use Mailchimp. However, if your email host recognizes our emails as spam and sends this message back to Mailchimp we will no longer be able to use your current email address. The only solution we have found is to use a new email address for you. If you are not receiving the weekly emails (like this email) from us please let us know that you haven’t received one. Also each week the email will be posted on the right hand side of our website. This way you will still be able to see the list of what we are offering. We truly apologize for any inconvenience that was caused.
The strawberry crop is definitely slowing down. This is sad news for our customers but great news for our backs. This week you will only receive a pint of strawberries, but we hope you enjoyed the extras these past two weeks.
We have had several questions about returning the boxes the berries come in. We will gladly accept your boxes if you are 100% positive that the box came from our farm. Our organic certification will not allow us to use boxes from another farm that uses pesticides or fungicides. If we are uncertain that the box came from us we usually give it to a conventional grower. If you are uncertain we ask that you give the box to a grower that is not organic.
The fields are looking beautiful and now that I have help I am able to focus on the growing. I cannot say enough about how amazing our crew is this year and that includes our Workshare members. We are so very grateful to share this amazing energy with you.
Each week we will feature an item in the recipe section of this email to introduce you to what we are growing and what we think is the best thing on the “menu” for the week.
Yes, the greens of beets. The greens of beets are extremely nutritious and tasty. Many people throw them away. They are very closely related to spinach and Swiss Chard. You may use them the same way as both of these items. Beet greens are sweeter than swissh chard and great for smoothies. We only offer beet greens this time of year when we need to thin the beets in order to let them develop a root. At this stage of their growth they are tender and sweeter than when the root has devoloped. This is a great time to try them.
I recommend cooking them lightly or eating them raw to truly enjoy their flavor.
- Sauteed with bacon
- Chopped Salad
- My favorite: Mix the beet greens in a peanut sauce. They melt in your mouth when sauteed. I love them so much this way. Over soba noodles or rice.
Thank you so much for joining this journey with us. We look forward to the many blessings to come.
