Garlic Scapes are the tender green flower stalks of the garlic plant. They are harvested in June and a nice prequel to the garlic season ahead. The garlic scapes must be removed from the plant in order for the plant to send it’s energy into making the bulb. Garlic scapes have a mild garlic flavor.
Storage and Preparation:
Garlic scapes should be stored in the refrigerator in a plastic bag in your crisper drawer. They will store for several weeks.
- The scapes can be used chopped raw or sautéed in any recipe you would normally use garlic.
- I like to place the scapes on a cookie sheet and add olive oil, salt and pepper. Bake at 375 degrees until crispy. Yummy!
