Late Fall CSA – November 9, 2016

I had a chance to travel out of town this week to a place known for its culinary excellence. The entire time I was still longing for the foods from my own fields. Even the best restaurants are often lacking truly fresh seasonal produce. It reminded me that I am so blessed to be able to work with rich soils and spring water to grow truly high quality produce. I became a farmer because I craved fresh nutrient dense food. And I am so proud to grow it and share it with you. Sometimes you need to get away to be reminded of what riches you have at home. Thank you for trusting us to provide this service to you. 
Featured Crop
Each week we like to feature a vegetable from our list that we feel is in its prime. A crop is often filled with the most energy and nutrition when it is at its peak.
Lemongrass 
This is a new crop for us this year and we have been pleasantly surprised by how easy it is to grow and how popular it is at the farmers’ market.
In addition to being a culinary delight, Lemongrass has many medicinal properties:
The health benefits of lemongrass include relief from stomach disorders, insomnia, respiratory disorders, fever, aches, infections, rheumatism and edema. The defensive antioxidant activity of the lemongrass herb protects against antibiotic-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and helps in maintaining optimum cholesterol levels, cellular health, nervous system, healthy skin and immune system. It is also effective in treating type 2 diabetes, cancer, and obesity, while also aiding in detoxification. It is extensively used in aromatherapy and helps to combat fatigue, anxiety and body odor.

Items available this week:
  • Potatoes, baby russet – 2 lb. 
  • Cabbage, green – 1 medium head. 
  • Brussels sprouts – 1 stalk or 1 lb. These may contain aphids. 
  • Celeriac aka. Celery Root – 2 medium bulbs.
  • Beets (these could be red, golden or Chioggia) – 1.5 lb. with greens.
  • Radish, Watermelon – ¾ lb.
  • Radish, Daikon – 1 stout root.
  • Broccoli Shoots – 3/4 lb.
  • Garlic, Silver White – 2 bulbs.
  • Garlic, Music- 2 bulbs.
  • Broccoli Leaves- ¾ lb.
  • Broccoli Raab (A mustard green with tiny broccoli florets.)– ¾ lb.
  • Komatsuna mild and tender mustard green.) – ¾ lb.
  • Swiss chard (small leaves) – ½ lb.
  • Pac Choi – 1 head
  • Parsley – 4 oz. bunch.
  • Lavender – 4 oz. bunch.
  • Lemongrass- 8 oz. bunch.
  • Tomato, Green – 2 lb.
  • Spicy mix – 5 oz. OR Spinach – 7 oz. 
  • Herb Mix 1: 2 oz. each of Sage, Oregano, Parsley.
  • Herb Mix 2: 2 oz. each of Parsley, sage, Marjoram.

Add-Ons
When can you expect your add-ons?
  • Bi-weekly Egg Deliveries: 11/16, 11/30, 12/14
  • Weekly Kombucha Deliveries
  • Weekly Fruit Deliveries
    • 2 lb. Bosc Pears & 2 lb. Empire Apples from Weaver’s Orchard.

We will pack your add-ons directly in your CSA box. 

Ordering
We need to have your orders by Monday at 8 pm. This weekly newsletter will also be posted on our website in the right hand side bar for reference. Late orders cannot be accepted. If you do not choose to order or forget to order we will select a well-rounded box for you. Each week while the ordering store is open, the ordering page can be found from our website or the newsletter email. From our website: Click the Member Actions tab on the top menu bar, which will lead you to this Member Login button: Go ahead, click it! Log in by: Entering your email address. (The one that you used to sign up for B&H.) You will receive a link in a an email that will take you to your account. Entering a password. (You must use link login for your first time logging in.) Once logged into your account you can change click on Fall Vegetable Share under Member Stores. You will see the list of available items. Click Add to Cart for each item that you would like in your box. You may pick 6 items. You will see your items show up in your cart on the right hand side. When complete, you may click Continue to Checkout or Specify Quantities. (Please do not change quantities of items that only allow one to be ordered.) Or you may head to the Extras store to add free items that we have abundance of that week, if applicable.
IMPORTANT: Be sure to complete all steps for checking out. Please keep an eye out for your confirmation email. If you do not receive that email, then we did not receive your order!!
If you are going away or unable to pick up your produce you may donate your share in your account under Holds. We have selected 2 individuals/organizations in need, that your donated share would go to.
Pick Up/Delivery 
We realize that many people are busy and forget to pick up. This is one of our biggest issues running the CSA. We work hard to fill your boxes with fresh vegetables and we want you to receive them when they are fresh. Please keep in contact with us if there is an issue with picking up your box on time. It is best to call or text Erica at 484-955-1098. (If you are texting please send your name.) Please remember each week to gently break down your box and leave it at the site. The site host is not responsible for your produce or the delivery; please do not contact the site host with any issues. If you have concerns about your order or any problems do not hesitate to contact us at info@bhorganicproduce.com. We appreciate your feedback and although we are trying to create an automated system we still want to have direct communication with our customers!
Members can have their boxes delivered right to their door! On any given week you can make a payment of $7 via PayPal during ordering in the Delivery Store. First, go to Delivery Dudes website, reading.deliverydudes.com, to see if you are within the range of service or visit our website to read more, http://bhorganicproduce.com/delivery-dudes. Delivery customers will receive their boxes between 4-6pm.
